The Other Soprano
We all know the story of The Phantom of the Opera…don’t we?
Erik, otherwise known as The Opera Ghost, The Phantom of the Opera, The Angel of Music, the deformed genius who becomes obsessed with a young Swedish singer, Christine Daaé, tutors her to turn her into a great prima donna, and kidnaps her when she professes her love for her childhood sweetheart, Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny. He asks her to marry him, threatens to kill Raoul, but eventually releases her and dies of love.
Let’s start with the assumption that these events are more or less the way the story occurred. But perhaps there is one piece missing from the puzzle. A piece that would provide some clarification regarding the motivations behind the behavior of Erik and Christine. Perhaps there was another person behind the scenes, pulling the strings of the unfolding puppet show. Someone with their own objectives and motivations, who was just as determined as Erik to succeed.
